Research Notes on Diet for ADD
An ADHD and ADD diet should include a balance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat dairy products, lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. Studies have not determined if sugar will worsen symptoms of ADD or ADHD, though children should not consume too much of it for medical reasons such as weight management. Also, children should not skip meals or snacks as this can cause blood sugar to lower, making the child irritable.1
Fast Facts:
- ADD is one of the most well-known disabilities during childhood.2
- Boys are more likely to have ADD than girls.3
- Adults are often not diagnosed or treated for ADD.2
