Research Notes on ADHD Behavior Charts

One method of regulating behavior in children with ADHD (attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder) is the use of behavior charts. ADHD is a behavioral disorder with symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity. Behavior charts allow you to track the daily behavior of your child, in order to motivate them and minimize the undesired behaviors. Such a chart can allow you to keep track of behavioral patterns, and weekly or daily schedules.1

Fast Facts:

  • In order for this method to be effective, behavior and activities must be charted consistently.1
  • A number of ADHD behavior charts are available online for free download.2
  • 4-6 weeks is usually enough time to change a behavioral problem.3
  • Focus on encouraging desired behaviors, not necessarily emphasizing the negative ones.3
