Research Notes on ADHD/ADD in Girls

Although ADHD/ADD is diagnosed three times as often in boys, a number of researchers believe that many girls suffer from the condition and go undiagnosed for longer periods of time.1 While boys tend to display more disruptive types of ADHD, girls tend to develop a predominately inattentive type.1 Girls who have difficulty maintaining focus, become easily distracted, appear forgetful, and who seem to daydream frequently may be showing signs of ADHD.1 While these symptoms may not be cause for alarm during the early school years, girls with ADHD often have difficulty in the middle and high school years.2
