Research Notes on ADHD/ADD and Nutrition
Some people believe that food additives have an affect on ADHD. Artificial colorings, according to one study, may be associated with hyperactivity in children. However, there hasn't been any proof that food additives can cause ADHD or ADD.1
Fast Facts:
- A London study was done on sodium benzoate, sunset yellow, carmoisine, ponceau 4R, tartrazine, quinoline yellow and allura red and their effect on ADHD.1
- The study wasn't able to specify if any of those additives had an effect on ADHD.1
- People with ADHD who think that certain food additives are affecting them should remove those additives from their diet.1
