Research Notes on ADD Causes


ADD is caused by a neurological dysfunction with the brain. The psychological mechanism which causes ADD is still being studied. Neurotransmitters, which are specific chemicals in the brain, might be missing in people that have ADD.1

  • ADD can be either inherited or acquired.1
  • Drugs used during pregnancy can contribute to the child developing ADD.1
