Research Notes on 504 Designation and Food Allergies
504 designations and food allergies refers to a section of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that is a plan for parents, students, nurses, etc. to provide for the individual needs of each child.1 This in particular applies to a collaborative effort to help children with food allergies.1 School meal plans are made with these children in mind so that they can have a happier and healthier experience with the food they receive at school.1
Fast Facts:
- This act also allows for certain life saving medications to be on hand at the school for children with certain allergies.1
- This act must be upheld by all schools that receive federal funding.2
- Rulings on whether a child is within the realm of this act are made on a case by case basis.2
