Research Notes on 10 Signs of Heart Attack
The most common sign of a heart attack is chest discomfort. Other common signs include discomfort in other areas of the body, shortness of breath, cold sweats, nausea, and lightheadeness. Women are more likely than men to experience chest discomfort with some of the other "atypical" heart attack symptoms. If you are feeling chest discomfort, call 911 immediately.1 OrganizedWisdom has created a list of 10 signs of a heart attack (you can also take our quiz).
10 Signs:
- Discomfort that feels like a crushing, squeezing, or burning pain, pressure, or fullness in the center of the chest.2
- Pain or discomfort that radiates to the neck, one or both arms, the shoulders, or the jaw.2
- Shortness of breath that usually occurs prior to chest discomfort.3
- Anxiety that causes a sense of doom or a panic attack.3
- Lightheadness that makes you feel dizzy or like you are going to pass out.3
- Sweating with cold clammy skin.3
- Nausea and vomiting.3
- An increased or irregular heart beat.4
- Chills.2
- Rarely fainting may occur.2
